Object storage
🔗
◆ Operational
Object storage is data storage that originates in cloud environments and can be used to store and share data. An object consists of a unique name, the actual data and associated metadata (such as access authorizations and user-defined metadata). In contrast to file systems, objects are not stored in a hierarchy but in a flat container (so-called buckets). Access is via HTTP-based protocols/APIs such as S3 or Swift. All users initially receive 20GB of storage space. This quota can be increased to up to 200GB without justification. Up to 50 buckets can be created in a unique namespace for data storage. Additional encryption is required to store confidential data. The traceability of changes is possible via versioned buckets. Object locking can be used to protect against subsequent data changes.
